For those of you who unfortunately could not attend we would like to outline below the most important innovations we were able to present and demonstrate at ACHEMA 2015 and trust you will find these of interest

We hope it was a worthwhile experience for them, also being able to catch up on the past. For those of you who unfortunately could not attend we would like to outline below the most important innovations we were able to present and demonstrate at ACHEMA 2015 and trust you will find these of interest:

Signal Tower in Ex d for Zone 1

The Ex approved Signal Towers are equipped with the latest, high brightness and maintenance-free LED technology.

Application areas are health welfare and status displays, signaling faults and level indicators, access authorisations and traffic lights.

There are 2 enclosure sizes available for up to 4 (430mm) or 5 (470mm) indicator lights.

The signal towers can be supplied ready assembled and provided with suitable cable glands or ready to connect cable line-bushings.

A cable line-bushing offers the advantage of a complete pre-wired unit ready for final connection.

You can have up to 2 cable glands or cable bushings. Thus, several signaling columns can be connected one after the other in parallel.

EXTC 100 electronic controllers for Zone 1 with intrinsically safe remote control

The EXTC 100 electronic controller is contained in an Ex d enclosure with a transparent inspection window to enable easy reading of the data such as operating and actual set temperature points. The display is always readable by the operator due to the adjustable mounting bracket that can be panned through 180° and tilted through 90°.

The settings can be controlled and adjusted, whilst the unit is still fully operational and energised, by means of an intrinsically safe remote control infra-red beam, without the need to switch-off or open the Ex d enclosure. Detection and temperature sensing are carried out with ''Ex'' type PT100 RTD's. The switching capacity of 16A allows direct switching via SPST contacts for many applications, not just trace heating.

Twin-path cable bushing for easy mounting

The bushings are used for electrical connection of devices between hazardous enclosures. This can either be between a flameproof enclosure and an enclosure with different type of protection, or between two flameproof enclosures. Depending on the design they are suitable for intrinsically safe circuits, measurement and control circuits, power circuits or combinations of the above.

The bushings are sealed with high-temperature-resistant, non-tracking resin and thus insulated from the enclosure.

The 'Twin-path' cable bushing assembly is simplified by a rotating line bushing. After the outer threaded bush adaptor is installed the pluggable part with the wires or cables can be inserted. Now the internal pluggable feed-through bush can be adjusted to the correct position. When everything is connected the inner bush is now secured against further rotation. This method of installation protects the cables and wires, saves a lot of time and is very easy to use.

Ex d thermostat with 25A switching capacity

Ex-thermostats of the IRM Ex d-series are mechanical 2-point capillary tube and bulb sensor type. The powder-coated die-cast aluminum housing is very robust and suitable for harsh environments. Heating circuits can be connected directly by means of our universal connection technology IAL8 (Q-term 8; indicated later in this article) and a suitable connection cable using approved Ex d type cable glands.

The thermostat can switch up to 25A directly via n/c contacts.

The temperature set point is fully adjustable. When the nominal value set point is exceeded the circuit is switched off.

Different temperature ranges are available.

Standard colour is cream-white RAL 9010 but other colour finishes are available upon request.

Standardised overpressure system of Generation 2.0

At ACHEMA 2015 we were able to demonstrate impressively, using our large 2-door cabinet enclosure, the fully functioning new overpressure system. The simplicity of handling (no flushing volumes, no calculations, no programming, low pressure application, quick set-up etc.) is a distinct advantage to allow Non-Ex devices to operate in hazardous areas.

QUINTEX offers its Plug & Play SPZ-series of enclosure housings in different designs and sizes. All systems are available for hazardous areas (zones 1/21 and 2/22) in protection type pressurised enclosure. Depending on the specific applications different variations are possible. Using our SPZ-series of enclosure housings the user maintains full flexibility allowing him quick and easy use of non-hazardous components in a 'Zone 1 or 2' environment. The enclosures are certified and ready to use immediately after installation.

By connecting the power supply and creating the necessary internal pressure, after referring to the accompanying documentation, the system starts automatically.

The QUINGUARD® pressure switch unit by QUINTEX works without having to purge the system and thus is ready for immediate use. Elimination of both flushing time and compressed air makes this operation particularly economical. The free measuring is carried out with a static mounted gas detector.

Universal Connection Technology IAL8 (Q-Term 8) for all approved Trace Heaters

The IAL8EX ...(Q-Term 8) system includes a simple screw connection type terminal block for connecting power supply cables and heating cables easily and quickly.

Its compact size (Ø 25mm) allows the installation to be carried out and secured beneath the thermal insulation. Because it is rare to separate the trace heating connection frequently the occasional separation can be carried out very easily by means of the ceramic connector block inside. This extremely compact connection technology is well suited for such items as heating mats, valve assemblies and similar detachable applications.

No heat-shrinking, no hot air gun, no hot work permits or any special tools are needed for preparation and assembly. Furthermore, heating tape extensions can easily be integrated into circuits by means of available T-kits and such like.

This unique technology allows the easy connection of almost all market approved trace heaters as is therefore most suitable for on-going repairs and simple upgrades.
